Bridesmaids Attempt to Scam Bachelorette Party Guests to Fund Their Excuslive Destination Hen Party, Woman Spreads the Word, Foiling Their Plan

Welcome, internet surfing sisters. Have you ever participated in a scam? From multi-level marketing schemes that rope us in with promises of big pay to overcharging on Facebook Marketplace for something you technically got for free, most people are not able to resist the opportunity to make a little extra - even if it is at the expense of others. While it is unethical to scam anyone at all, it is doubly morally reprehensible to actively scam the people close to you.

In our story today, a woman susses out a bachelorette party scam after she notices that the money the bridesmaids requested to cover the entry fee for the venue is 13 times more expensive than the norm. She later discovers that she was right to be suspicious after one of the bridesmaids lets slip that this was no mistake - the extra money was supposed to cover the 'real' bachelorette party - a destination vacation.     I (f29) have been invited to my future SIL's (f25) hens night. It's in a few weeks but tonight I told them I won't be going and they're SIL's bridesmaids are not people I get along with, their entire personalities seem to be based off of how blind drunk they frequently get. This is relevant to my story.

    So they've organised 2 hens, 1 that I was invited to, and another which is just the 3 of them on a weekend away. The 1 I was invited to was advertised as a drag show at a local gay club. They've requested we each pay $200 for this. I've been to this club numerous times, entry is around $15 and the drag shows are free? No drinks, no packages, so what the are we paying that money for?

    They're also trying to control what everyone's wearing, they want everyone in a little black dress. I prefer to dress modestly and found a midi dress which keeps everything covered. In a group chat I was told that this was inappropriate and I'd stand out like a sore thumb. I explained I'm not comfortable dressing in the clothes they want me to, and was told to get over it and do it for SIL. Another family member was also told the same thing, she's very self conscious at the moment after recently

    I had issues with this, and with the amount of money they're asking. One of the girls privately messaged me and told me that the money was to actually fund SIL's weekend away, which none of us were invited too. I told her that this was being dishonest and we should all have the choice if we want to pay for this. She basically told me to it up so I told her to remove me from the group chat and I wouldn't be attending, now they're I and trying to involve SIL.

    I also live 2 hours from where this event is being held. I don't drink due to a brain condition and I've been around these girls in the past when they're drunk, it's unbearable. They will continuously try to get me to drink, even going so far as to put actual alcohol into my mocktail previously, and dribble absolute garbage. One is the angry drunk who tries to fight everyone and the other is the sad drunk who ends up making the night about her.

    When they got to our table and asked me for money I said, in my sweetest and earnest voice "Oh no, I spent all my money on your gift. I didn't know you wanted cash instead. I'm so sorry". Other people overheard and started saying much the same thing. I was truly shocked at the naked cash grab. And the brought the credit card machine so no one could say they didn't have cash. ← 223

Lying about the amount required for the hen party because they don't want to pay for the second hen party? Shady AF. Putting alcohol into someone's drink when that person cannot have alcohol?
